We’re celebrating a milestone for our Head of Sales, David Coleman, who marks eight years at Positive Lending. In this special Q&A, David shares the moments that have kept his passion alive, the changes he’s seen in the specialist mortgage market, and what continues to excite him about the future. From the relationships built with brokers to the real-life impact on clients’ lives, David’s insights are a window into what makes Positive… well, Positive.

 

Eight years at Positive is an amazing milestone, what’s kept you passionate about the business all this time?

“It might sound cliché, but it really is all about the people, because it’s the people who make the business. No two days are the same, and the customer-first culture that was there on day one is just as strong today. It doesn’t feel like eight years have passed, which can only be a good thing. As the saying goes, time flies when you’re having fun, and I can honestly say, it’s been a lot of fun.”

 

What’s one moment or case that really reminded you why you love this job?

“There are too many moments to condense into just one, but it’s the real-life stories behind the clients we help that always remind me why I love this job. What we do goes far beyond just a transaction. Whether it’s helping someone keep their home, manage a difficult financial situation, or achieve something they thought was out of reach, those are the moments that stick with you and make it all worthwhile.”

 

How would you describe Positive Lending in one sentence?

“Big enough to deliver, small enough to care.”

 

What makes a great broker relationship in your eyes?

“For me, a great broker relationship is built on trust, transparency, and consistency. It’s about working together as partners towards the same common goal.”

 

What’s the biggest change you’ve seen in the specialist lending market since you joined?

“What was once considered a niche or last resort option is now a vital part of the mortgage market, with brokers and clients far more open to nonmainstream solutions available to them. Lenders have evolved too, offering more innovation, flexibility, and speed, making it a far more dynamic and competitive space than it was eight years ago.”

 

What would you say to a broker who’s never worked with Positive before?

“I encouraged brokers, even those already working with another trusted partner, to widen their net and give us an opportunity alongside and let the results speak for themselves. We’re proud to have a loyal base of repeat brokers and introducers who consistently trust us with their specialist lending cases, a reflection of the service, expertise, and outcomes we deliver.”

 

What part of your job gives you the biggest sense of satisfaction?

“The biggest sense of satisfaction comes from supporting brokers, whether an existing relationship or the beginning of a new one, it’s helping get a tricky case over the line, finding a solution others haven’t, or just making their day-to-day that bit easier. There’s nothing better than knowing you’ve added real value for both them and their clients.”

 

How does it feel knowing your work makes a real impact on the lives of families across the UK?

“It’s something I never take for granted. Every case comes with a story and knowing that, together with our broker partners we’ve played a part in helping a client overcome a challenge or improve their circumstances is incredibly rewarding. Whether it’s helping a family keep their home, consolidate debt, or take a step forward, the real-life impact of what we do makes it all feel worthwhile.”

 

If you could describe the Positive team in three words, what would they be?

“Experienced. Personable. Passionate.”

 

What are you most excited about for the future at Positive Lending?

“What excites me most is the continued growth of the business and the opportunities that come with it. Positive has never been a company to stand still for long, and as I write this, there are numerous exciting projects taking shape behind the scenes. The ambition isn’t just about increasing volume, it’s about evolving as a team, developing our people, and strengthening our ability to do what we do best: support more brokers and their clients. There’s still huge potential in the specialist market, and I’m proud that Positive is so well positioned to lead from the front.”
